U.S. Preventive Medicine to enter United Kingdom with three practices

By Healthcare Finance Staff

U.S. Preventive Medicine is crossing the Atlantic.

The Dallas-based provider of prevention-based services for hospitals and healthcare providers in the United States has signed a letter of intent with iHealth UK, Ltd. to jointly develop three preventive medicine businesses in the United Kingdom.

"Our partnership with USPM gives us access to an even wider team of healthcare experts to share knowledge, experiences, new technologies, procedures and treatments and provide the best possible preventive health programs," said Stefan Wisbauer, chief executive officer of iHealth.

The deal, expected to be signed in January 2008, allows iHealth to leverage USPM's systems, operating procedures and branding and marketing materials - including The Prevention Plan - to market preventive medicine services in the United Kingdom and other international markets.

The Prevention Plan, a personalized wellness program delivered online to individuals, is primarily sold to employers to help manage future health costs. It helps individuals determine health risks and take steps to improve their health.

U.S. Preventive Medicine was launched several years ago in the United States, but only announced itself to the public this past year with a plan to establish a network of hospitals and healthcare providers, which would operates "Centers of Preventive Medicine." The centers would contract with USPM to provide branded clinical content and services, including The Prevention Plan and Experience Health 365, a field-based chronic disease management program.

"We are excited to provide practical solutions for preventive care and disease management to consumers in England through our agreement with iHealth," said Christopher Fey, chairman and CEO of U.S. Preventive Medicine. "This expansion into Europe is the first step in USPM's plan to provide practical solutions at every point in the healthcare continuum both internationally and locally."
