Vendor Notebook - Benefitfocus to provide web offering for CareFist BCBS

Benefitfocus, based in Charleston, S.C., has announced that CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, the Mid-Atlantic’s largest healthcare insurer, has selected the company to provide a comprehensive Web offering for its consumer, employer and broker constituents.

Four Rivers Software Systems, a Pittsburgh-based provider of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for the healthcare industry, has announced a deal with PartsSource, a multi-manufacturer, multi-modality alternative parts supplier for hospital equipment, to integrate TMS Enterprise with ePartsFinder.

Patient Portal Technologies, Inc. of Baldwinsville, N.Y., has announced new contracts to provide patient billing services to six hospitals in the Northeast. The contracts cover some 3,200 beds that provider services to more than 800,000 patients annually and are expected to add more than $3.2 million in revenue to the company.

Conmed Healthcare Management, Inc. of Hanover, Md. has been awarded a three-year medical services contract with the new Western Virginia Regional Jail in Salem, Va. The $5 million contract is expected to generate $1.7 million per year in revenues for the company.

Wells Fargo of San Francisco has announced the purchase of about $730 million in loans and leases from GE Healthcare Financial Services – Equipment Finance. The receivables are from the business formerly known as HPSC, Inc. and are primarily related to financing dental and eye-care practices and equipment.

Merrick Bank, a Utah-based subsidiary of CardWorks, Inc. has entered into a long-term strategic relationship with E-Duction, of Blue Bell, Pa., to lend support to the E-Duction CLEAR Card Program, which is offered as an employee benefit to corporation and allows employees to pay for out-of-pocket healthcare costs, among other expenses.

Somatic Systems, Inc., a Northampton, Mass.-based developer of pain-care services, has been approved and is now listed in the National Provider registry, and the company has received its National Provider Identifier (NPI) code from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Principal Financial Group of Des Moines, Iowa, has announced that Community Health Systems of Franklin, Tenn. has chosen the company for its defined contribution and nonqualified plans.

CyberShift, a Parsippany, N.J.-based provider of workforce management and expense management software and services, has announced a partnership with Chicago-based System Development Integration (SDI), a systems integrator that focuses on the management of the safety, security and surveillance of people and operations. SDI will leverage CyberShift’s Workforce Management 3G into its portfolio of solutions.

Internet Payment Exchange (IPayX) of Toledo, Ohio has enhanced its eCareview Healthcare Billing Portal with BillPay Assist, which enables healthcare providers to give consumers and customer service agents the ability to create scheduled payment options for the self-pay portion of their medical bills.

PHX, a Bedminster, N.J.-based developer of health plan cost management services, has formed a partnership with the APEX Management Group designed to provide PHX with the tools to identify the true source of a health plan’s cost problems. Through the relationship, PHX will license APEX’s claims analysis and pricing platforms.

A.D.A.M., Inc. of Atlanta has completed its refinancing plan and has obtained a new credit facility with RBC Bank USA, replacing the existing 2006 agreement with CapitalSource LLC. Under the new agreement, the company has secured a term loan of $10 million and expended its revolving credit facility from $2 million to $3 million.

Emmi Solutions of Chicago has announced a strategic alliance with Boise, Idaho-based Healthwise to create Emmi + Healthwise, designed to give hospitals and clinicians more information and tools they can prescribe to patients to empower them to take an active role in their care.

MDdatacor, Inc. of Atlanta has announced that the Summa Health Network in Ohio will be using the company’s CareInformatix technology to compare claims-based data to actual clinical data as part of a multi-insurer healthcare quality initiative.

BestBill, a Phoenix, Ariz.-based billing technology company that specializes in delivering invoices and statements, has partnered with Tennessee-based Healthcare Management Systems, Inc., which provided information technology to some 600 community hospital nationwide. BestBill will provide HMS with online bill presentment, payment and direct payment services through its WebView permission-based technology.
