Vendor Notebook: HP Enterprise Services signs outsourcing agreement

HP Enterprise Services has signed a seven-year outsourcing agreement with Smith & Nephew, a developer of medical devices. Through the deal, HP will provide multi-national finance and administration services to Smith & Nephew’s European and Indian operations.

Medical Staffing Network Holdings, a Boca Raton, Fla.-based provider of per diem nurse staffing services as well as travel, allied health and vendor-managed services, has entered into an asset purchase agreement to sell substantially all of its assets to the MSN Acquisition Company, LLC, an entity organized and to be owned by the company’s first lien secured lenders. In order to facilitate the sale process, the company has filed for relief under chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

athenahealth, Inc., based in Watertown, Mass., has signed an agreement with VHA, Inc., an Irving, Texas-based national healthcare network that serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals and 28,000 non-acute care providers, to make available to VHA members the company’s suite of Web-based electronic health record, practice management and patient communication services.

MedAssets, headquartered in Atlanta, has announced that the Daughters of Charity Health System in Los Altos Hills, Calif., Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Fla., Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., and the Riverside Health System in Newport News, Va., have recently contracted with the company to deploy its Contract Manager solution to manage complex payer contracts and capture contractually owed net revenues.

Krames Patient Education, a Yardley, Pa.-based developer of patient education and consumer health information solutions, has released version 5 of its On-Demand product.

BayScribe, an Edgewater, Md.-based provider of clinical documentation solutions, has announced a partnership with the NLP Corporation, based in Westport, Conn., to develop applications that leverage NLP’s MEDLEE natural language processing technology.

PharmaTrust, an Oakville, Ontario, Canada-based developer of remote prescription drug dispensing technology, has signed an agreement with the Ontario Telemedicine Network that will enable OTN’s members to integrate the company’s technology into their telemedicine service offering.

MedClean Technologies, a Bethel, Conn.-based developer of on-site technology for the treatment and disposal of medical waste and the destruction of confidential documents and related media, has signed a partnership with Bear Consulting aimed at implementing an expense reduction program for the U.S. Veterans Administration Healthcare System’s 1,629 facilities, with a targeted savings of more than $100 million over the next decade.

Medworxx Solutions, Inc., a Toronto-based developer of software solutions for patient flow, compliance and education in the healthcare sector, has entered into a new $1 million credit facility with Silicon Valley Bank, a member of the SVB Financial Group. The money will be used to pay off existing credit facility with the Royal Bank of Canada and for general working capital.

Advanced Medical Pricing Solutions of Atlanta has announced an affiliate partnership with TC3 Health, Inc., an Irvine, Calif.-based provider of fraud, waste and abuse detection services for healthcare payers.

The Emergency Medical Services Corporation, based in Greenwood Village, Colo., has announced that its EmCare segment has acquired Affilion, a Tempe, Ariz.-based provider of emergency department physician staffing and related management services to hospitals in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The company has also completed its acquisition of Fredericksburg Anesthesia Consultants, LLC, a provider of anesthesia services to facilities in south Texas.

CoverMyMeds, LLC, a Twinsburg, Ohio-based healthcare technology and services company, has received a $250,000 investment commitment from JumpStart Ventures to develop its application for automated submission of requests to cover patient prescriptions that have been rejected by insurers.

Redwood Healthcare Staffing, a Los Angeles-based provider of temporary nurse staffing and travel nurse solutions, has announced the offering of new franchise opportunities in Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Colorado.

MidCap Financial, LLC, a Bethesda, Md.-based commercial finance company focused exclusively on middle market healthcare, has announced that one of its financing subsidiaries has closed a $250 million credit facility from a bank group led by Wells Fargo Capital Finance, with commitment from SunTrust Bank, Goldman Sachs Bank USA and Key Equipment Finance. The facility is an extension and expansion of the existing facility that MidCap had in place with Wells Fargo.

MultiPlan, Inc., a New York-based healthcare cost management company serving insurers and health plan administrators, is being acquired by the private equity firm BC Partners and technology investor Silver Lake for a reported $3.1 billion.

MicroStrategy, a Mclean, Va.-based developer of business intelligence software, has announced that VHA, an Irving, Texas-based national healthcare network, will use the company’s MicroStrategy Mobile application to help member hospitals gain access to supply chain analytics data.

DST Health Solutions, based in Birmingham, Ala., has launched its 5-I Compliance Accelerator Program, designed to help health plans successfully prepare major business systems for compliance with upcoming federal regulations – in particular, ICD-10 and HIPAA conversions.

Hummingbird Coaching Services, a Cincinnati-based provider of health and wellness coaching tools, has been acquired by Louisville, Ky.-based Humana.

Emergency Medicine Physicians, a North Canton, Ohio-based provider of emergency medical services, has announced contracts with Mercy Hospital Anderson in Cincinnati and Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, N.Y. The two contracts expand EMP’s reach to 38 locations in eight states.
