PSS World Medical, Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla. has announced that it has made a $22.5 million equity investment, approximately 5 percent of current outstanding shares, in athenahealth, Inc, a Watertown, Mass-based provider of healthcare information technology and business services to physician practices. In addition, the company's Physician Sales & Service has entered into a two-year deal with athenahealth to market its Web-based practice management, billing and electronic medical record solutions.

Atlanta-based MedAssets Net Revenue Systems has announced that Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. will implement CDM Master and Knowledgemaster Plus for chargemaster monitoring and management.

Coventry Health Care, Inc. of Bethesda. Md. has completed its previously announced acquisition of a certain group of health insurance businesses from Mutual of Omaha, including the commercial employer group health business in Nebraska and Iowa and the national Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) administration business. In addition, Coventry has agreed to acquire Florida Health Plan Administrators, LLC, owner of Vista Healthplans, for $685 million.

LTC Financial Partners, LLC of Kirkland, Wash. has unveiled Long Term Healthcare Benefits Consulting, a new service that helps businesses map out the best way to offer their employees long-term healthcare benefits.

PCG Software, a Malibu, Calif.-based provider of software solutions for healthcare payers and providers, and HealthCare Information Management, Inc. have unveiled SymKey Virtual AutoPost, a jointly developed solution for payers that integrates with PCG Software's flagship Virtual Examiner solution to speed the healthcare claims review process.

The QuadraMed Corporation of Reston, Va. has announced that Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyo. has awarded the company a contract to implement its revenue cycle management solution and health information and identity management software.

Wipro Technologies of Minneapolis has launched a "Global Managed Compliance Center," designed to help healthcare organizations manage the key requirements of HIPAA privacy and security regulations cost-effectively by leveraging standardized HIPAA processes, assessment and contingency planning services.

El Segundo, Calif.-based Computer Sciences has completed its acquisition of Covansys, an India-based provider of outsourcing for healthcare and financial services, among others. The deal was worth $1.3 billion in cash.

Quovadx, of Greenwood Village, Colo., has announced that nTelagent, a Nashville, Tenn.-based healthcare services company that helps providers deal with patient responsibilities self-pay issues, including co-pays, deductibles and underinsured patients, has chosen the company's Cloverleaf Integration Suite to facilitate the payment collection process for nTelagent's Self-Pay Management System.

California-based Attainia, Inc. has signed a deal with Premier, Inc. of San Diego, the country's largest healthcare purchasing alliance, to provide software and services targeted at capital budgeting and equipment planning.

The Medipattern Corporation, a Toronto-based developer of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) solutions for breast ultrasound imaging, has announced a partnership with HealthcareIQ, LLC, a Connecticut-based provider of reimbursement and payer adjudication rules. Under the agreement, Medipattern's clients will have access to payer-specific benefit plan rules, coding guidelines and medical necessity protocols.

Allscripts has announced that data capture tools in its HealthMatics Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Ntierprise Practice Management (PM) system, as well as its TouchWorks EHR and PM solution, will support physician practices in preparing for the Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative, Medicare Care Management Program and other federal pay-for-quality programs.

SM&A of Newport Beach, Calif. has announced that it has signed an agreement with a leading administrator of Medicare health insurance for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Under the agreement, the company will provide competition management services to assist the organization in responding to and winning Medicare RFPs.

eWork, Inc. of Denver reports that the New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System has successfully implemented its eWork Healthcare online software solution, which automates contingent hiring management and frees up human capital and budget resources.

Image Technology Laboratories, a Kingston, N.Y.-based medical image and information management vendor, has concluded $650,000 in debt financing with an Atlanta-based bank. The money will be used to expand sales and marketing efforts and enhance technical support infrastructure.

Concuity, a Vernon Hills, Mich.-based healthcare division of Trintech, has announced the availability of EOB PRO for ClearContracts, its Web-based revenue cycle management system. ClearContracts helps healthcare providers identify and correct underpayments due to payer non-compliance in the contract revenue cycle. EOB PRO converts paper-based explanation of benefits (EOBs) into HIPAA-standard 835s.

Medical Informatics Engineering has announced the addition of a Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) module to its WebChart electronic medical record system. The module automatically generates the data required for the PQRI voluntary reporting program.
