Vendor Notebook - MedeFinance secures $50M in funding

MedeFinance, an Emeryville, Calif.-based provider of healthcare performance analytics solutions, has secured $50 million in funding, led by Bain Capital Ventures, with additional reinvestment from certain of the company’s existing investors. The company plans to use the money to fund new growth initiatives and acquisition opportunities.

athenahealth, Inc., a Watertown, Mass.-based provider of Internet-based business services to physician practices, has announced that Houston-based RediClinic LLC will implement the company’s athenaCollector revenue cycle management solution at all of its retail healthcare facilities, while a select number will also use the athenaClinicals electronic medical record service.

Passport Health Communications, a Franklin, Tenn.-based provider of revenue cycle management solutions for healthcare providers and payers, has received $232 million in recapitalization investment from Spectrum Equity Investors and Great Hill Partners, both of which will own a majority interest in the company. Primus Capital Funds, which led a recapitalization of the company in 2006, has rolled a majority of its existing stake and has contributed additional equity alongside the other two private equity firms. The transaction provides liquidity to long-term venture capital and angel investors as well as access to additional capital for investment in new products and future acquisitions.

General Dynamics Information Technology, of Fairfax, Va., has been awarded a 10-year TRICARE Evaluation, Analysis and Management Support (TEAMS) contract by the U.S. Department of Defense. Under the contract, General Dynamics will provide planning and management services including requirements analysis, acquisition support, budget planning and management, business process engineering, technical management, program planning and execution support to the Military Health System.

HMS, a New York-based provider of coordination of benefits (COB) and integrity services for government healthcare programs, has won a competitive procurement to continue to provide revenue recovery and cost management services to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, which operates the state’s Medicaid program.

Sage Software Healthcare, Inc. of Tampa, Fla. has announced that Crescent City Physicians, Inc., a 12-location, 38-physician multi-specialty practice based in New Orleans, has chosen the Intergy by Sage integrated electronic health records and practice management system.

U.S. Preventive Medicine of Dallas has formed an alliance with the Atlanta-based Physicians Planning Group to allow PPG employee benefit brokers the ability to offer U.S. Preventive Medicine’s prevention program to employers. PPG, which offers consulting services on employee benefits health insurance and financial planning, will also offer The Prevention Plan to its network of physicians.

 

Wonderbox Technologies of Mequon, Wis. has released version 4.3 of its Enterprise System for dental benefits administration.

MED3000, Inc of Pittsburgh has completed a five-year renewal of its agreement with the Pediatric Health Care Alliance, P.A. of Tampa, Fla. to provide practice management services.

Henry Schein, Inc. of Melville, N.Y. will collaborate with Milpitas, Calif.-based Sikka Software to provide Henry Schein customers with Sikka’s products, including Dental Practice Optimizer, Clinical Practice Optimizer, Fee Optimizer, Fee Schedule Optimizer and HotOptimize.

The TriZetto Group has announced a three-year, renewable contract with Syntel, Inc. to provide IT and business process outsourcing services as a TriZetto multisourcing partner.

RemitDATA, Inc., a Memphis, Tenn.-based developer of Web-based productivity tools and benchmarking to the outpatient healthcare market, has announced that U.S. Oncology of Houston has chosen the company to provide reimbursement tools for its oncology practice clients.

Alpha II, a Tallahassee, Fla.-based provider of healthcare coding, compliance and reimbursement solutions, has announced a contract with CPU Medical Management Systems, a provider of healthcare information software to medical billing services and physician organizations, to integrate Alpha II’s ClaimStaker claims scrubbing application with CPU’s MED/FM medical billing and revenue cycle management system.

nTelagent, Inc., based in Nashville, Tenn., has announced a partnership with the South Carolina Hospital Association to implement the nTelagent Self-Pay Management System accounts receivable solution.

Hartford Financial Products, an underwriting unit of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., has developed CyberChoice 2.0, a new liability product that provides healthcare providers and other businesses with technology-related insurance.

APS Healthcare of White Plains, N.Y. has announced contract renewals with the Arkansas Department of Human Services’ Division of Medical Services for review of behavioral health services for Medicaid patient under age 21 and with the State of Oklahoma Health Care Authority for enhanced care coordination and the launch of a psychiatric consultation pilot project for the state’s 600,000 participants in the Health Care Authority Quality Improvement Organization Program. In addition, the company has entered into an agreement with the state of Maine to streamline data collection and reduce provider administrative burden.

MTBC, a Somerset, N.J.-based developer of revenue cycle and practice management software, has announced that it is offering automated real-time adjudication of claims for patients with United Healthcare insurance.

Gordian Health Solutions, Inc., a Nashville, Tenn.-based provider of personal health coaching services, has signed an agreement with Edward Hospital & Health Services of Naperville, Ill. to provide health coaching tools to Edward’s nearly 4,500 employees, as well as eligible spouses.

Medefile International, Inc. has announced an agreement with Direct Technology Innovations to allow DTI to market Medefile’s electronic payments technology to its customer base.

Plexis Healthcare Systems of Ashland, Ore. has announced that the ColinaImperial Insurance Company of  New Providence, The Bahamas, has selected the company to implement its Plexis Claims Manager claims processing and benefits administration software platform.

Eulogix, based in Houston, has added electronic claims processing capabilities to its Convergent Therapy Information System (CTIS), a Web browser-based electronic clinical records platform for mental and behavioral health providers.

The Lexington Insurance Company, a unit of AIG Commercial Insurance, has introduced Pandemic Rx, an endorsement to Lexington’s commercial property policy for acute care medical facilities to cover business income loss and extra expenses incurred during a declared pandemic influenza public health emergency, as defined in the policy.

Ebix, Inc., an Atlanta-based provider of software and e-commerce products for the insurance industry, has announced plans to acquire Acclamation Systems, Inc., a provider of SaaS-based healthcare benefits and claims management software, for roughly $22 million.

The Premier healthcare alliance, based in Charlotte, N.C., has been selected by Boston’s Tufts Medical Center as a group purchasing performance partner.

Oliver Wyman, a New York-based management consulting firm, has acquired ChapterHouse, a Chicago-based healthcare strategy consulting firm, and will fold the group into Oliver Wyman’s Health & Life Sciences practice, which consults to the payer, provider, health management, biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

GE Capital has completed the acquisition of most of CitiCapital, Citigroup’s North American commercial leasing and commercial equipment finance business, adding $13.2 billion in assets. The acquisition includes CitiCapital’s Healthcare Finance group.
