Nuance Communications of Burlington, Mass. has signed an agreement to acquire Vocada, Inc. of Dallas, a provider of critical test result management solutions.

Picis, Inc. of Wakefield, Mass. has released CareSuite Extelligence Anesthesia version 3.0, a turnkey business intelligence solution designed specifically for analyzing and managing the business performance and clinical quality indicators of the anesthesia care environment.

Lawson Software of St. Paul Minn. has announced that Heartland Health of St. Joseph, Mo. licensed the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management suites during the first quarter of fiscal year 2008, which ended Aug. 31, 2007.

Minneapolis-based Honeywell has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hand Held Products, Inc. of Skaneateles Fall, N.Y. for approximately $390 million. Hand Held Products manufactures a range of data collection and communication products designed for mobile, on-site and transaction processing in healthcare, among other industries.

The Center for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH) has announced that Availity, GE Healthcare, Health Management Systems and MedData are now certified in compliance with business rules developed by the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE).

First Health Services of St. Paul, Minn. and RxHub have announced an agreement to provide a secure network infrastructure for ePrescribing for Medicaid recipients in 14 states. The infrastructure will provide authorized physicians with access to decision support at the point of care through the RxHub National Patient Health Information Network.

First Consulting Group of Long Beach, Calif. has unveiled FirstPortfolio, a customizable collection of applications that allows health plans to add market-leading, third-party software tools quickly and at a lower cost than by traditional means.

Chicago-based AVRECO is partnering with Shand Morahan & Co., Inc., which underwrites coverages tailored to offer insurance solutions for medical professionals and others, to create a risk management program aimed at Midwest hospitals. Keane, Inc. of Boston has been awarded a $1.2 million contract with Century City Doctors Hospital, a 176-bed, physician-owned acute care hospital in Los Angeles, to install its Patcom revenue cycle management product and general financial modules.
