Vendor Notebook: The QuadraMed Corporation launches Quantim ICD-10

The QuadraMed Corporation of Reston, Va., has announced the general availability of the Quantim ICD-10 Coding Simulator, designed to help coders prepare for the transition to ICD-10. Summit Health in Chambersburg, Pa., is the first to implement the simulator.

Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., of Dallas has announced the successful implementation of a new Medicaid management information system (MMIS) for the District of Columbia’s Department of Health Care Finance.

GE Capital’s Healthcare Financial Services unit, based in Bethesda, Md., has provided a $35 million revolving line of credit to CCS Medical, Inc., a provider of medical supplies assisting patients who need diabetes test strips, insulin pumps, urological supplies, ostomy supplies, advanced wound care dressings and prescription drugs. The loan will be used to refinance existing debt, provide working capital and support growth initiatives following the company’s exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Healthcare Trust of America, Inc., a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based, self-managed, publicly registered non-traded real estate investment trust, has completed nine acquisitions during the first quarter of 2010, including the exercising of an option to purchase the remaining minority interest in an ownership entity of an existing asset. The acquisitions involve 13 medical office buildings and amount to roughly $146 million.

The Trintech Group, a Dallas-based provider of financial governance, risk management and compliance software solutions, has completed the sale of its Concuity healthcare division to The Advisory Board Company for $34.5 million in cash.

Emerging Healthcare Solutions, Inc., based in Houston, has engaged VITEB as the company’s iPhone development partner for its new MedAnywhere application, which is designed to connect patients to doctors for diagnostic consultation and treatment and reduce medical costs.

Globaltel Media, based in San Diego, has launched MedAlirti, a new application designed to allow healthcare providers to transport and share medical data via standard cellphone SMS text messaging without the need for a specialized mobile application.

A-Life Medical, Inc., based in San Diego, has announced that A-Life Hospital, the company’s wholly owned subsidiary, has entered into an agreement with OhioHealth, a Columbus, Ohio-based health system, to provide outpatient-based computer-assisted coding (CAC) services, with the possibility of expanding into inpatient and professional coding services in the future.

The Hypercom Corporation of Scottsdale, Ariz., has announced that Dirk Rossman GmbH, one of the top three drugstore chains in Germany, will deploy 5,000 Artema Hybrid payment terminals in retail outlets throughout the country. More than 250,000 Artema Hybrid terminals have already been deployed in Germany.

Miller Construction and Moss & Associates, two Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based construction firms, have joined forces to launch Moss Miller Healthcare.

RelayHealth, an Atlanta-based provider of healthcare connectivity services, has announced that its Payer Connectivity Services (PCS) business has earned certification from the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE) Phase II.

The McKesson Corporation, based in San Francisco, has signed an agreement to sell its McKesson Asia Pacific (MAP) business to Medibank Private Ltd., an Australian health services provider and insurer. MAP, which was founded in 1995 and acquired by McKesson in 2000, offers phone- and Web-based healthcare services focusing on triage, health and wellness advice, chronic disease management and mental health services in Australia and New Zealand.

Connectyx Technologies of Palm City, Fla., has signed a joint marketing agreement with Consult A Doctor to provide its MedFlash personal health manager to more than 36 million people currently using telemedicine services.

The Eclipsys Corporation of Atlanta has announced that The Methodist Hospital of Houston has selected Eclipsys HealthXchange, a scalable and secure platform powered by Medicity, to connect its acute care electronic health record with EHRs being used at local affiliated physician offices. The company has also announced a partnership with Rothman Healthcare Research to build its Patient Condition Tracker software solution on Eclipsys’ Helios platform.

Versus Technology, Inc., based in Traverse City, Mich., has announced that Canyon Park Clinic, Pacific Medical Center’s new multi-specialty clinic in Bothell, Wash., will deploy the company’s Clinic Workflow Automation software, which is based on the Versus Advantages real-time locating system.

Passport Health Communications, based in Franklin, Tenn., has launched the eCare Patient Access Suite, a patient-facing portal designed to enable patients to verify information, address compliance and manage patient records in advance of service.

Avatar International, based in Orlando, Fla., has been selected by Milwaukee-based Froedtert & Community Health to partner in a comprehensive patient satisfaction evaluation and service delivery optimization program. The program will be based on a personalized survey for each patient, designed by Avatar.

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems of Horsham, Pa., has announced that the Mercy Health System in Pennsylvania will deploy the NextGen EHR and Health Information Exchange solutions. The health system has been using NextGen Practice Management for about four years.

Hyland Software, based in Cleveland, has announced a partnership with PFU, a subsidiary of Japan-based Fujitsu Limited, to offer Hyland’s OnBase enterprise content management software on PFU’s self-service kiosks.

DSS, Inc., based in Juno Beach, Fla., has announced that the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-University Behavioral HealthCare (UHBC) will deploy the vxVistA EHR system and integrated clinical mental health technology for its more than 600 clinical staff members in 11 locations.

Wolters Kluwer Health, based in Philadelphia, has announced that the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System in Florida has selected the company’s ProVation MD software for gastroenterology procedure documentation and coding at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The company has also announced an agreement to provide access to Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference as part of premium subscriptions to its Facts & Comparisons eAnswers drug reference tool.

SunGard Financial Systems, based in Wayne, Pa., has launched a global services organization of approximately 4,500 employees. The new business, which combines the company’s consulting and technology services teams, will focus primarily on the global financial services and energy industries.

Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions, based in Chicago, has announced that the Parkview Health System in Indiana has selected the Allscripts Electronic Health Record, Practice Management and Revenue Cycle Management solutions, as well as the Allscripts Emergency Department Information System. In addition, the company has announced that the Sacred Heart Medical Group in Florida will deploy the Allscripts Practice Management and Allscripts Payerpath revenue cycle management solutions to automate billing, scheduling, claims management and other financial functions for its 200 providers in 37 locations.

Pharmacy OneSource, Inc., based in Bellevue, Wash., has made several enhancements to its Sentri7 Web-based electronic surveillance application, designed to help hospital staff identify at-risk patients.

IBM, based in Armonk, N.Y., has announced that Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, N.J., will use a real-time location services (RTLS) system designed by the company to track assets. The system will be based on an ultrasound RTLS infrastructure designed by Sonitor Technologies.

Patient Care Technology Systems, based in Charlotte, N.C., has announced that Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., will be using a real-time location system (RTLS) and Vixport information portal that has been co-developed by PCTS and Alpharetta, Ga.-based VIXIA to manage movable medical equipment assets. The portal is built on PCTS’ Amelior 360 technology platform.

Meru Networks, Inc., based in Sunnyvale, Calif., has announced that the St. Joseph Health Care System, based in Bryan, Texas, has deployed the company’s wireless LAN solutions for implementing a healthcare information system, which includes Meditech bedside patient registration, medication administration carts, voice applications for nurse call systems and asset tracking.

Intellimedix, a Lakeland, Fla.-based provider of business intelligence solutions, has released Tru:Insights, an enhanced employer group reporting solution, designed to better identify and manage financial and medical risk.
