Vendor Notebook: WM Healthcare Solutions buys autoclave treatment facility

WM Healthcare Solutions, Inc., of Houston, a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc., has purchased Medserve, Inc.’s Newton, Kan.-based autoclave treatment facility and its transfer stations in Kansas City, Kan., Oklahoma City, Okla., Omaha, Neb., and Booneville, Mo., from Stericycle, Inc.  The assets were purchased from Stericycle following a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice that resolved its antitrust complaint against Stericycle’s acquisition of MedServe in December 2009, enabling that transaction to close.

VHA, Inc., of Irving, Texas, has announced the launch of a new suite of services under the banner VHA Value Insurance Program Services. The services are designed to help hospitals ensure that they are positions for the start of the value-based purchasing initiative that will be implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in October 2012.

The MRO Corp., a King of Prussia, Pa.-based provider of disclosure management applications and services, has launched software upgrades for its Audit Tracker Online product.

Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions, based in Chicago, has announced that the Jackson Clinic, based in Jackson, Tenn., will integrate the Allscripts Electronic Health Record with the Allscripts Vision Practice Management solution for its 120 physicians and 10 mid-level providers in west Tennessee. In addition, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists and the New York Spine and Wellness Center have jointly selected the Allscripts EHR and Practice Management solutions for their providers in 11 lovarions in and around Syracuse, N.Y.

FairWarning, Inc., based in St. Petersburg, Fla., has announced the availability of the FairWarning Patient Privacy Framework data definition guides for patient privacy breach detection and prevention in healthcare.

Benefitifocus, based in Charleston, S.C., has announced a partnership with BancorpSouth Insurance Services, Inc., one of the nation’s largest insurance brokers, that will allow the company to offer the Benefitfocus Platform to BancoprSouth Insurance clients.

eHealth, Inc., the Mountain View, Calif.-based parent company of eHealthInsurance.com and eHealthMedicare.com, has acquired Maynard, Mass.-based PlanPrescriber, Inc., formerly known as Experion Systems, for approximately $28.7 million in cash. PlanPrescriber provides online and pharmacy-based tools to help seniors navigate Medicare health insurance options and choose the right plan.

Ingenix, based in Eden Prairie, Minn., and Denver-based Health Language, Inc., have announced the launch of Global Code Manager, a solution designed to help healthcare providers translate between the ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets.

Health Access Solutions, based in Foster City, Calif., has announced an alliance with AxSys Technology Ltd. to market a suite of electronic health record, electronic prescribing, personal health record, care management, authorizations, pre-certifications, case management, use management, clinical care guidelines, disease management and analytics solutions under the Access Express and Excelicare brands.

Portico Systems, based in Philadelphia, has announced that the Principal Financial Group has implemented the company’s Integrated Provider Management (IPM) solutions. WAUSAU Financial Systems of Mosinee, Wis., has announced that its ReceivableWorks solution is now able to accept additional forms of payment through a cashiering partnership with CORE Business Technologies.
