Washington Drug Card program has saved residents $2.6 million

By Chelsey Ledue

Washington residents have saved more than $2.6 million on prescriptions since the launch of the free statewide prescription assistance program.

Washington Drug Card, which offers free discount drug cards to residents, was launched in August 2008. The program has no restrictions to membership,  income requirements or age limitations and there are no applications to fill out.

“Washington Drug Card has helped many residents get the medications that they so desperately need,” said the program’s development director, Eric Brown. ‘We will continue our efforts to create awareness for the program and to establish new card distribution sites so that all residents will have access to this program.”

The program was originally launched to help the state’s uninsured and underinsured residents afford prescription medications.
