Washington hospital begins expansion project

By Richard Pizzi

Central Washington Hospital has initiated a $118 million expansion that will add a five-story tower with 174 private patient rooms.

The hospital's board of directors approved the expansion at a late June board meeting.

The tower will be built in the central portion of the existing hospital after the oldest parts of the facility are demolished. According to Jack Evans, Central Washington Hospital's president and CEO, the facility's transitional care unit, rehabilitation services, pharmacy and other office spaces will be relocated.

The project adds 190,000 square feet of new space as well as the remodeling of other patient care services and office space and a new parking structure for 200 vehicles.

Construction is expected to take 20 months, with the tower to be occupied in May 2011.
