The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), which bills itself as the leading authority on the use of health IT to improve the exchange of healthcare information, today announced its collaboration with other industry and government entities to support the industry's upgrade to ASC X12 5010.
WEDI and partners will launch a multi-tiered campaign to gather feedback, track challenges, identify and provide guidance to correcting ASC X12 5010 implementation-related issues, especially among commercial payers, officials say.
The campaign includes the launch of the online WEDI 5010 Issue Reporting System and a series of free live webcasts. The first webcast in the series is set for April 19, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
WEDI, in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, ASC X12 and other industry representatives, will analyze submitted issues and work to identify appropriate solutions or industry guidance as needed. Webcast information is available here.
WEDI was formed in 1991 by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and was designated in the 1996 HIPAA legislation as an advisor to HHS.
The online WEDI 5010 Issue Reporting System allows all affected parties, including providers, payers, clearinghouses, and vendors, to submit their issues associated with implementing ASC X12 5010, and search through a database of current documented problems, officials say. The Web-based system offers an easy-to-use interface with multiple sorting categories and sub-categories, say WEDI officials, including the option to view previously submitted issues and responses to those posted issues.
"We are excited to work with these partners to demonstrate how private industry and government can work together to solve critical industry issues," said Devin Jopp, WEDI president and CEO. "By leveraging the new online issue reporting tool and webcasts, our goal is to enhance communications between all stakeholders and to share our common issues and solutions."
