Four hundred thirty-one award recipients score high on female patient satisfaction, company says.
431 hospitals have been recognized by the Women's Choice Award company as the Best In Obstetrics for 2016, they announced Tuesday in a statement. WCA, which is a private company, touts the award as an evidence-based accolade that is singularly unique in its use of of criteria that focus on female patient satisfaction and clinical excellence to make the designations.
Winning hospitals ranged in size from small (up to 100 beds), medium (101-250 beds), large (251-400 beds) and extra large (over 400 beds). Some of the winners include: Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving, Texas (small), Lakewood Health System in Staples, Minnesota (medium), Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio (large), and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York (XL).
According to the WCA organization, the awarded hospitals ranked above the national average for patient recommendations, based on data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys. Some of the other standards or assets WCA took into account when making their decisions included whether a hospital had a NICU on site, how low their rates of early elective delivery were, with an allowable range between 0 and 1%, as well as whether the hospital ranked above the national average for patient safety.
"New moms have many choices when it comes to having their baby, so choosing the best birthing experience is right up there with choosing the best doctor. We've made it easy for moms to vet out the hospitals that are proven to deliver an outstanding experience," said Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of the Women's Choice Award.
