Zynx Health launches national ACO pilot

By Eric Wicklund

Zynx Health is lending its clinical decision support tools to the push for accountable care organizations in a pilot project with five healthcare organizations from across the nation.

The Los Angeles-based healthcare IT vendor, a subsidiary of the Hearst Corporation, announced on Oct. 27 that it will partner with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California, Memorial Hermann Healthcare in Texas, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Washington, the St. Joseph Health System in California and Texas and the WellStar Health System in Georgia. Those health systems will use Zynx Health tools to assess clinical processes and workflows and identify what might be improved.

“We are excited to pilot this solution as it will give us the ability to see the direct impact of clinical decision support in achieving improvements in patient outcomes at a reduced cost,” said Jon Morris, chief medical information officer at WellStar Health in Marietta, Ga.

“By identifying the clinical processes that represent the greatest opportunity, we will be able to target our efforts to achieve better outcomes clinically and financially,” added Greg Schroedl, chief medical officer at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center in Washington. “This approach will help lay the clinical foundation for our healthcare reform journey.”

According to Zynx Health officials, it’s estimated that 80 percent to 90 percent of healthcare costs are influenced by clinical decisions. By employing decision support and predictive analytics solutions, they said, healthcare providers can draw from quality outcomes to improve their processes. That’s part of the nation’s healthcare reform plan, as outlined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.

“Zynx Health’s mission has been to ‘measurably improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care’ since 1996. We are honored that these forward thinking organizations have chosen to partner with Zynx Health on this exciting pilot aimed at improving financial and clinical outcomes,” said Scott Weingarten, MD, chief executive officer at Zynx Health. “Together we will work to uncover areas that will support them on their journey to succeeding in a reformed healthcare system.”
