The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Nurse Practitioners will consolidate effective Jan. 1. 2013, the two membership organizations announced last month.
The combined organization, with approximately 40,000 members, will be called the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
“The nurse practitioner community has made it clear that they support this alliance and share our vision for one entity that represents the very best of what we have to offer as healthcare providers,” said Angela Golden, DNP, current president of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, in a statement about the consolidation. “Coming together better serves our members and benefits our patients who need nurse practitioners now more than ever.”
In the new organization, Golden will continue serving as president of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners through June 2013. David Hebert, the CEO of the American College of Nurse Practitioners will become the CEO of AANP immediately, and will become co-president with Golden beginning at the AANP conference in June 2013.
