The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) has begun its second cycle of funding requests and is seeking applications. Up to $96 million for comparative effectiveness research is available.
“As with all of our work, our latest funding cycle seeks applications for rigorously designed studies that involve patients and stakeholders on the research team and that answer questions of greatest concern to patients,” said Joe Selby, MD, PCORI’s executive director, in a press release.
The latest funding cycle (the first opened last May) supports four of the five focus areas outlined in PCORI’s National Priorities for Research and Research Agenda. Applications for proposals should be for projects that:
- address critical decisions that patients, their caregivers and clinicians face (assessment of prevention, diagnosis and treatment options area);
- address critical decisions that healthcare systems face (improving healthcare systems area);
- address critical elements in the communication and dissemination process among patients, their caregivers and clinicians (communication and dissemination research area); and
- inform strategy choice to eliminate disparities (addressing disparities area).
