The Medical Group Management Association is holding its annual conference in Las Vegas Oct. 23 to 26. If you’re going, here are some tips for making it a conference to remember:
1. Learn a few moves – Cirque du Soleil performers will be roaming the Exhibit Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. Sun., Oct. 23. Make sure to stretch beforehand. Unitards are not supplied.
2. Pull an all-nighter – There are many fun things to do in Vegas: Comedy, music and dance shows; casinos; freebies like the light show of the Freemont Street Experience, fountain displays at the Bellagio, wildlife at the Flamingo and the fireball choreography of the Volcano at the Mirage. Plus, staying up all night means you’ll be on time for early morning sessions.
3. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas – Use social media to share your Vegas experiences. Follow MGMA’s Twitter feed for up-to-the-minute information.
4. Get your photo taken with Elvis – Celebrity impersonators abound. Get your photo taken with Elvis or Frank and share it with the world.
5. Gamble without losing money – Lots of prizes are being offered in the Exhibit Hall, including five at $1,000 each.
6. Go shopping – Bust out of the casual business dress code so often expected at conferences. You can get yourself a showgirl wig at Serge’s Showgirl Wigs on East Sahara Avenue or celebrity cast-offs at Refinery Celebrity Resale Boutique on East Sunset Road.
7. Be a star – MGMA’s Open Mic Live gives you a chance to show off what you know about such hot topics as physician recruitment, care coordination and how to form an accountable care organization. Singing optional.
8. See some bodies – Not some topless show! Well, not that kind of topless show. Check out human bodies sans skin at “Bodies … the Exhibition” at the Luxor.
9. Get your book signed – Meet Cam Marston, bestselling author of “A Generational Look at Customer Service and Patient Care.” He’ll lead a session from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a book signing on Sun., Oct. 23.
10. Place your bets and leave a big winner by attending these sessions:
